"This is a scene where he finds himself detained ... in a kind of mysterious and very strange set of circumstances," Manhattan's creator Sam Shaw told BuzzFeed. "It's not even clear that the captors that he's being held by know ... why he's there."

He's faced with a Kafkaesque interrogation as he tries to ascertain his surroundings.
As Shaw says, it's the first time for Frank "where his powers of reasoning and his ability to kind of rationally affect his circumstances are completely out of whack."
